PROMET-H2
PROMET-H2 worked on a pressurised PEM water electrolyser with the lowest capital cost possible, reducing precious metals and expensive stack components. CENmat was a project partner.

- CENmat’s rolePartner (beneficiary)
PROMET-H2 aimed at a pressurised PEM electrolyser with a capital cost of 500–750 €/kW without compromising performance and durability.
The stack, based on hydraulic compression, uses improved membranes and electrodes with reduced or no precious metal content and coated bipolar plates and porous transport layers. A 25 kW system was coupled to a methanol pilot plant using CO₂.
targets
- PEM electrolyser CAPEX of 500–750 €/kW
- Electrodes with reduced or no precious metal content
- 25 kW PEM system coupled to CO₂-to-methanol production
- Recycling strategies, LCA and cost evaluation
Project targets as published on CORDIS; they are research goals, not product specifications.
cenmat’s contribution
CENmat contributed low-precious-metal catalyst development for the PEM anode – the background of today’s OXYGN (PEM) ultra-low-iridium catalyst.
