OXYGN (PEM) low-iridium catalysts and CCMs
Iridium-thrifted oxygen-evolution catalysts and catalyst-coated membranes for PEM electrolysers. With only 0.2 mg Ir/cm², OXYGN-M has shown 1.86 V at 2 A/cm² for more than 1,000 h.
what it is
OXYGN for PEM is CENmat’s low-iridium line for PEM water electrolysis and is separate from the AEM product lines. OXYGN-M is its low-iridium oxygen-evolution catalyst for PEM anodes.
At only 0.2 mg Ir/cm², OXYGN-M has shown 1.86 V at 2 A/cm² for more than 1,000 h (80 °C). A CCM with 0.5 mg Ir/cm² reaches 2.012 V at 2 A/cm² and has run for 1,960 h at an average degradation of 3.5 µV/h (80 °C).
For PEM manufacturers and integrators, lower iridium loading reduces exposure to one of the scarcest metals in the electrolyser supply chain and helps PEM electrolysis scale.
Use the AEM vs PEM iridium calculator to estimate how much iridium a given PEM capacity needs at different loadings.

frequently asked questions
How low is the iridium loading?
Down to 0.2 mg Ir/cm²: at that loading OXYGN-M has shown 1.86 V at 2 A/cm² for more than 1,000 h. With 0.5 mg Ir/cm², it reaches 2.012 V at 2 A/cm² and has run 1,960 h at 3.5 µV/h (both at 80 °C).
Is OXYGN for PEM iridium-free?
No. It is iridium-based but ultra-low in iridium. For iridium-free electrolysis, see CENmat’s AEM products (OXYGN for AEM, H2GN, AionFLX™).
How much iridium would my PEM project need?
Use the AEM vs PEM iridium calculator for a first estimate based on published loadings, then ask us for a tailored estimate.
Can I get samples or CCMs?
Yes. OXYGN-M catalyst and CCMs are available as paid samples; prices are on request.
