REDHY

REDHY reimagines water electrolysis with a redox-mediated concept that avoids critical raw materials and PFAS-based membranes or ionomers. CENmat is a project partner.

  • ProgrammeHorizon Europe – Clean Hydrogen Partnership (HORIZON-JU-RIA)
  • TopicInnovative electrolysis cells for hydrogen production
  • Grant agreement101137893
  • Duration1 January 2024 – 31 December 2027
  • CoordinatorGerman Aerospace Center (DLR)

REDHY develops a redox-mediated water electrolysis approach, patented by DLR, that aims to overcome limitations of current electrolysers. It is free of critical raw materials and does not require PFAS-based membranes or ionomers.

A 5-cell stack prototype is developed and validated in the laboratory to demonstrate efficiency and durability at elevated current densities and low temperature.

targets

  • 5-cell stack, active area above 100 cm², 1.5 kW nominal power
  • 1.5 A/cm² at 1.8 V per cell, 60 °C, 15 bar
  • 1,200 h laboratory validation at a maximum degradation of 0.1 %/1,000 h
  • TRL 4 at project end

Project targets as published on CORDIS; they are research goals, not product specifications.
